Preschool Curriculum

At Honey Bee Academy your child will participate in various hands-on activities. These activities are designed to introduce your child to current learning objectives in a meaningful, personal way. They will explore and discover solutions working individually, with a friend, or in a small group setting.

Our preschool program begins by introducing our one-year-old’s to baby sign language, along with a reading program designed by Dr. Titzer called, “Your Baby Can Read”. The children will continue to follow this program through age four. As your child grows, we will adjust our daily routine, curriculum, and learning objectives to accommodate their developmental growth.

Children’s Learning Centers

Honey Bee Academy knows that learning is everywhere! We want to promote a fun, learning environment by utilizing learning centers to keep your child engaged and interested. “Play with a purpose” lets each individual child learn with age-specific programs and curriculum. They are designed to move your child ahead developmentally, intellectually and socially in an environment that is warm, nurturing, and fun. The main goal of our program is to prepare your child for school.

We believe every activity in which your child engages is an opportunity to teach, whether it is in the classroom or off site on a field trip. When you come and visit Honey Bee you will find children playing with others, reading alone, or in our learning centers. No matter where they are, you will know their activities revolve around learning and development.

In order to provide our children with opportunities to choose their own activities, Honey Bee Academy has set up Activity Centers. In our classrooms, you will see a variety of areas, which have furniture, equipment, and supplies related to a particular interest. Some Activity Centers feature soft items to create a cozy comfortable atmosphere while other spaces encourage social interactions and active games for our children.

Some Activity Centers you will find at Honey Bee Academy are:

  • Board and Table Game Area
  • Manipulative Area
  • Arts and Crafts Area
  • Dramatic Play Area
  • Reading Area
  • Barbie Area
  • Car and Train Area

Assessments

The learning objectives are introduced and repeated throughout the curriculum. Our teaching staff tracks your child’s daily development two ways:

  • Perform on-going assessments by observing your preschooler within the Learning Centers and other daily activities. We believe it is more accurate and feasible to observe preschoolers’ behavior and skills within typical daily activity.
  • Semi-Annual screening which is more of a formal Pre-Kindergarten testing with all children ages two to five years of age still in our preschool program. This helps us know what each individual child or the group as a whole needs to work on. As well as making sure the curriculum is age appropriate and each child is learning on their level.

Honey Bee Academy, LLC uses the assessment results to build weekly lesson plans. The assessments are also used to indicate which areas of the curriculum we need to improve.
